CARY
Cary, Illinois, is one of the fastest growing towns in McHenry County, which is one of the fastest growing counties in Illinois and in all of the Midwest, yet it is removed completely from the stressful day-to-day routine of city living.
LOCATION
Cary is located about one hour northwest of Chicago. Its proximity to Chicago makes it an easy commute. U.S. Route 14 runs to Wisconsin and down towards Chicago and Interstate 90 is about 15 minutes from town and also runs into Chicago. BRIEF HISTORY
Cary’s original settlers were the Gillian family, who built a home there in 1834. There were 107 villagers in 1893 who voted to incorporate the village of Cary.
In the 1920s many resort cottages were built along the Fox River. Because the town had a great reputation for a combination of affluence and self-reliance, a gentleman by the name of John D. Hertz came to reside in Cary. As you may guess by the name, this entrepreneur started the world-famous firm of Hertz Rent-a-Car, along with many other businesses.
SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS
One of the things that makes Cary truly unique in a metropolitan suburb is its native prairies that are pristine and untouched as if it were 200 years ago.
The Cary Park District maintains a community center, which features pools, exercise equipment, and racquetball courts. There are about 30 parks in the area for sports and relaxation.
FOX RIVER GROVE
Fox River Grove is a small town of just under 5,000 people. However, its public services are of a very high quality and there is a wide variety of businesses and recreational activities.

Fox River Grove is about 45 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.
TRANSPORTATION
State Routes 14 and 22 are the major roads in Fox River Grove and Interstate 90 is just a short distance.

There is a Metra commuter train station in Fox River Grove.
BRIEF HISTORY
The village of Fox River Grove was incorporated on August 21, 1919. It was originally an agriculture community and a resort destination along the Fox River. As the railroad was completed as far west as the Chicago suburbs, the population grew and Fox River Grove became a year-round residential community.
SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS
There are 125 acres of parks in Fox River Grove. Picnic Grove Park is one of the most famous. It is along the Fox River and has one of the longest sledding hills in the area. Every year thousands of people come to attend the Norge Winter and Summer Ski Jump Competition.
The Windy City Balloon Port offers hot air balloon rides over McHenry County and the Octoberfest is held annually at the Norge Ski Club.
Other recreational activities along the Fox River include boating, fishing, and water skiing.
