There were 107 villagers in 1893 who voted to incorporate the village of Cary. SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS One of the things that makes Cary truly unique in a metropolitan suburb is its native prairies that are pristine and untouched as if it were 200 years ago. FOX RIVER GROVE Fox River Grove is a small town of just under 5,000 people. However, its public services are of a very high quality and there is a wide variety of businesses and recreational activities. LOCATION Fox River Grove is about 45 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. TRANSPORTATION State Routes 14 and 22 are the major roads in Fox River Grove and Interstate 90 is just a short distance.
The village of Fox River Grove was incorporated on August 21, 1919. It was originally an agriculture community and a resort destination along the Fox River. As the railroad was completed as far west as the Chicago suburbs, the population grew and Fox River Grove became a year-round residential community. SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS There are 125 acres of parks in Fox River Grove. Picnic Grove Park is one of the most famous. It is along the Fox River and has one of the longest sledding hills in the area. Every year thousands of people come to attend the Norge Winter and Summer Ski Jump Competition. The Windy City Balloon Port offers hot air balloon rides over McHenry County and the Octoberfest is held annually at the Norge Ski Club.
