BREAKING NEWS! WE ARE NOW WITH REMAX OF BARRINGTON! I was running a few numbers today that show a few major changes in the real estate market right now. 1. The number of Realtors in the NAR has dropped below 1,000,000 to 988,875! This is the first time since March of 2004 that we have been below 1,000,000. The highpoint for membership was in October of 2006 with 1,370,758. Since then we have seen a drop of over 38%! We will see that number go down even further in the next 2 months. 2. The number of active listings is at a 2 year low. 3. The number of homes under contract jumped big time in January up 62% from January 2011. 4. The months supply is at a 2 year low ... even lower than the height of the tax stimulus of 2010! The only damper on the market is that median price of sold homes continues to decline slightly. Distressed properties are the major cause for that decline. The demand for non distressed properties is very high and prices will soon show stabilization in that sector.
